Mobile operating system also called Mobile OS used in smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. There are different operating systems used in mobile phones. Mobile operating systems combine features of a computer operating system with other features useful for mobile or handheld use. Features like  Bluetooth, GPS mobile navigation, Wi-Fi, camera, voice recorder, video camera, speech recognition, music player are included in mobile os.

1.Symbian- Symbian Officially used in Nokia phones. After the up-gradation of  Symbian mobile OS, Nokia has made it capable to run smartphones effectively. ANNA and BELLE are the two latest Symbian updates that are currently used in Nokia’s smartphones.The Symbian OS is excellently designed and is very user-friendly.But as there is high use of android and IOS nowadays, the use Symbian is decreasing. Some of the phones currently running on Symbian OS are Nokia 808 Pure View, Nokia C6-01, Nokia 700, Nokia 603, Nokia E6 (ANNA) and Nokia 701 (BELLE).

2.Android- Google released the first android operating system with the name “Astro”. The next versions that the google released are “Bender” and “Cupcake”. After these versions, google decided to name the versions with the name of any dessert or sweet in alphabetical order. So, the other releases are Donut, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich,Jelly Bean and Kitkat. The latest version of android(6.0) is Marshmallow.Android gained immense popularity due to its efficient working and beautiful appearance. Many new features were included which played a significant role in Android’s success. Google Play is an official app market that contains millions of apps for different Android devices. Samsung, Motorola and many other  manufacturers are using Android in their devices. Some of the smartphones operating on Android are HTC Desire, Motorola Droid Razr, Samsung Galaxy S3,Samsung Galaxy Gio and HTC Wildfire.

3. Apple ios- Apple iOS was released in 29th June 2007 when the first iPhone was implemented. Since then iOS has been undergone many upgrades and currently the latest version is the iOS 9. Apple has still not allowed any other manufacturer to lay hands on its operating system. Unlike Android, Apple has more focused on the performance along with appearance. This is the reason that the basic appearance of iOS is almost the same as it was in 2007. In short, it is very user-friendly and is one of the mobile best operating systems in the world. So far iOS has been used in all iPhones, iPod & iPad.

4. Blackberry OS- The OS for Blackberry phone is released in 1999. Blackberry is much different from other operating systems. The interface style, as well as the Smartphone design, is also different having a trackball for moving on the menu and a qwerty keyboard. Blackberry is close source which means it is not available for phone manufactures. The Blackberry OS 7.1 is the latest release, immune to all viruses which is used in Blackberry Bold 9930.

5. Windows OS- Windows OS is used in mobile as well as in computers.  The earlier versions of Windows was not so popular, as user finds various difficulties while using them. But the recent version called as windows 7 gain the huge popularity among users. Because of its colorful and user-friendly view it became popular all over the world.Nokia Lumia series is completely windows based. Some of the latest Windows Phones are Nokia Lumia 800, Nokia Lumia 900, Samsung Focus and HTC Titan 2.

6.BADA- The Samsung released its own OS like others having name BADA. It is basically designed for midrange and high end telephones. BADA is user friendly and efficient operating system like android. There are only three smartphones operating on BADA which are Samsung wave, Samsung wave 2 and Samsung wave 3.

7.Palm OS- Palm OS was released in 1996, especially designed for personal digital assistants(PDAs). Earlier it was designed to operate on touchscreen GUI, but later on as huge updations were made on this, it is now support smartphones.The last version was made in 2007 and the companies who made Palm OS were Lenovo, Janam, IBM, Kyocera.

8.Open WebOS- Initially developed by Palm, but it became the property of Hewlett Packard(HP). It were incorporated in many smartphones and tablets. The latest device working on this OS is HP Touch pad. As the android gain the immense popularity, HP decided to discontinue the WebOS devices.

9.Maemo- The Nokia and Maemo community decided to make an OS for smartphones and Tablets named as Maemo. But this Os didn't get the popularity in the market like Android and iOS.
